Dear Neighborhood Council President:

Neighborhood councils need to pool their clout in order to be most effective. When nearly 40 neighborhood councils opposed the DWP hike, the City Council took action. “In unity there is strength.”

It is a precedent that should be followed in future dealings with the City Council. For this reason, a number of volunteer activists have been working to create a communications system in order to allow all of our neighborhood councils to cooperate on important issues.

A working structure has emerged which we call the Citywide Issues Group. Those of you who attend meetings of the Alliance of Neighborhood Councils will be familiar with our meetings, which have been open to all and attended by many. At the recent Congress of Neighborhoods, we met in one of the breakout sessions and agreed to a plan of action. We now ask you to join with us on those issues your neighborhood council may find sufficiently important.

We invite all neighborhood councils to join us as we work together to change the way the city does business. We will be communicating with neighborhood councils by e-mail on a regular basis and ask for your participation and support.
